Research Officer (Pharmacy) - Phage Genome Bioengineering

About This Role

This research officer role focuses on bacterial molecular biology, bacteriophage genome engineering, and microbiology within the SGH Pharmacy Research Laboratory. The successful candidate will support projects on bacteriophage genomics and CRISPR-assisted phage genome engineering, with a specific emphasis on bacteriophage therapy. The position requires independent bench work, laboratory maintenance, administrative duties, and staff training.

Responsibilities

• Apply and facilitate CRISPR tools to generate phage variants or engineered bacteriophages with unique therapeutic values
• Facilitate phage screening, MIC, time-kill experiments, and DNA, RNA bacteria samples extraction
• Establish a phage genome engineering pipeline for producing tailored antibacterial therapeutics

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in Bioengineering, Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related fields
• Prior lab experience and knowledge in microbiology (bacteriology) and molecular biology is an added advantage
• Fundamental knowledge of microbiological kill assays and antibiotic susceptibility testing is an added advantage
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, written and oral
• Ability to work well independently and in a team setting
• Good laboratory practice and documentation practice
