Research Biologist

Duties

As Research Biologist you will:

• Research studies of novel influenza virus to assess pandemic risk.
• Collaborates with other scientists and organizations.
• Publishes peer review journal articles and other scientific reports.
• Presents scientific findings at scientific meetings.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification: A bachelor's degree with a major study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

A combination of education and experience -- Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic qualifications: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include carrying out laboratory research studies in the investigation of novel influenza viruses as it relates to receptor binding, antiviral drug resistance, and epitope mapping of antibodies against virus surface proteins.

1. Security and Background Requirements: If not previously completed, a background security investigation will be required for all appointees.
