About the role

Duties

As Research Biologist you will:

  • Conduct independent research and oversee research projects of a research team.
  • Collaborate with partners inside and outside Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Prepare scientific findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals and government reports.
  • Present scientific findings to various groups.
  • Supervise a small contingent of research scientists.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic qualifications: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include designing, leading, and conducting experimental studies on influenza viruses aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms and biomarkers of drug resistance and disease severity.

Conditions of Employment:

  1. Security and Background Requirements: If not previously completed, a background security investigation will be required for all appointees. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements may be grounds for appropriate personnel action.
