Research Associate - Biotechnology

About This Role

Working directly with a Senior Research Analyst on the Biotechnology equity research team, the Research Associate builds financial models, performs fundamental analysis, writes research reports, and conducts industry assessments. This role suits an independently motivated, analytically-minded, and intellectually curious candidate with a passion for life sciences investing.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain financial models and market trackers
• Perform fundamental analysis and due diligence on biotechnology companies
• Write investment-driven research reports
• Develop and field industry surveys
• Attend medical and scientific conferences
• Undertake a wide array of industry analyses and competitive assessments
• Interface with company management, scientific and investor conferences, key opinion leaders, institutional investor clients, internal sales force, and trading personnel

Requirements

• One to two years of experience in equity research or a related field with financial modeling and exposure to the equity markets
• Demonstrable interest in drug development
• Attention to detail
• Strong work ethic
• Ability to multi-task
• Excellent written communication skills
• MS in biology or similar field
• Strong writing and analytical skills
• Strong financial modeling, accounting, valuation, and quantitative skills
• Passion for the biotechnology sector, stock market, and equity research
• Thorough understanding of the investment process and the ability to perform deep primary research
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to perform duties under minimal supervision
• Become fully-licensed (FINRA Registrations: SIE, Series 7/63/86/87) within 6-12 months after starting if not already licensed
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Nice to have:

• Advanced degree (PhD/MD/MBA, etc.)
• Prior exposure to the financial markets and equity research, as well as the day-to-day responsibilities of an equity research associate
• FactSet, Symphony, Bloomberg proficiency
