Research Associate (Bioengineering)

About This Role

This early-career research associate position involves advancing the application of enzymes in a bioupcycling project within the SLim Group. The role suits a dedicated and highly motivated individual contributor who is a technical expert and will work in a multi-disciplinary team of bioengineers and materials scientists.

Responsibilities

• Set up protocols for high-throughput process parameters screening
• Develop an automation process for process monitoring
• Execute experiments to achieve the specific aims of the project
• Present results in various meetings/forums
• Prepare reports for submission to the funding agency
• Liaise with other scientists in the team and in other groups to develop required expertise
• Advise final year project students and/or interns in the project
• Order chemicals and consumables for the team

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering or a related field
• Proven experience in recombinant protein expression using E. coli, protein purification using AKTA FPLC systems, and basic molecular biology and protein analytical techniques
• Experience in microbial engineering and the development of synthetic biology genetic toolkits
• Ability to independently design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments with minimal supervision
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
• Proactive and results-oriented, with the ability to manage research activities, deliver project outcomes in a timely manner, and support general laboratory operations

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with enzyme kinetics and polymer-degrading enzymes
• Familiarity with the ARIBA procurement/ordering platform
