Research Assistant

About This Role

Working with older adults, older migrant adults, and caregivers, the Research Assistant will carry out day-to-day research activities. This part-time position also involves helping the team with grant applications and communication with industry and community partners.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, screen, and obtain informed consent from older adults and caregivers, and schedule study visits and sessions
• Help organize and deliver in-person study sessions at SMRC, including room set-up, materials, and attendance tracking
• Set up study equipment and technologies and help participants use them during sessions
• Collect data through questionnaires, interviews, and focus groups, following study protocols
• Enter, clean, and manage study data using electronic data capture tools (e.g., REDCap) and spreadsheets
• Transcribe interviews and help with qualitative coding
• Run descriptive analyses and prepare tables and figures under the guidance of the research associate
• Prepare research ethics board (REB) submissions, amendments, and annual renewals
• Maintain study files, consent records, and protocol logs in line with institutional and Quebec privacy requirements
• Help prepare grant applications: literature searches, budget drafts, CVs, letters of support, and tracking of deadlines and forms
• Prepare agendas, briefing notes, and minutes for meetings with research collaborators, industry partners, and community organizations, and follow up on action items
• Help draft newsletters, lay summaries, and other knowledge mobilization materials
• Contribute to manuscripts, posters, and conference presentations
• Support graduate and undergraduate students in the lab with recruitment, data collection, and documentation
• Perform other related duties as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, gerontology, health sciences, nursing, kinesiology, or social work
• At least one year of research experience involving human participants
• Fluency in French and English, spoken and written, since the role involves daily contact with participants and partners in both languages
• Comfort and respect when working with older adults and caregivers
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage several tasks and deadlines
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace

Nice to have:

• Master's degree in a related field
• Experience recruiting or working with older adults, caregivers, or clinical populations
• Experience preparing REB submissions
