About This Role
This reporter position at WESH 2/CW18, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in the Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne DMA, is for a proactive individual who can quickly adapt to new situations. The role requires a self-starter who is eager to build relationships, contacts, and sources, and who thrives on breaking news and competition. The successful candidate will focus on strong enterprise reporting, finding stories that lead newscasts, and holding those in power accountable.
Responsibilities
- Plan, gather, and assemble stories on day-of news or special project assignments
- Work with a photographer to gather and edit compelling video and captivating sound
- Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop stories that go beyond surface details, accentuate unique enterprise angles, and have exclusive content
- Work with producers in newscast production
- Develop a network of sources who provide tips, early access to information, and allow the reporter to break stories of significance
- Contribute pictures, video, and text updates to mobile platforms throughout the day
- Juggle multiple stories and projects at once, demonstrating exceptional time-management skills by meeting all deadlines under extraordinary pressure
- Have and exhibit unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
Requirements
- Professional or college reporting experience
- Experience with enterprise reporting and ability to uncover details
- Demo reel is indicative of everyday work
- Write clear, correct, compelling copy that supports images gathered
- Operate mobile transmission devices and use latest technology
- Can work in all weather conditions and carry up to 50 pounds
- Have and exhibit unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
- Have a valid driver's license, can drive large vehicles over long distances, and a clear driving record
- Work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends
- Can deal with the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production
- Related military experience will be considered
