About the role
Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.
Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.
Required Qualifications:
- One or more years of clinical hemodialysis experience (outpatient or inpatient) as a registered nurse.
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in a pediatric hemodialysis setting.
- The motivation to become a participant on a team dedicated to effective, safe patient care.
- Willingness to learn and flexibility in assignments – this job will require both inpatient and outpatient care.
- Aptitude for care of the patient with renal failure.
- Ability to communicate effectively with pediatric patients and families.
- Exposure and/or hands-on experience with computers, familiar with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
- Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center dialysis locations – Mission Bay, Parnassus Heights, Mount Zion, Stanyan and Hyde.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient dialysis.
- Specialty certification in nephrology nursing (CNN).
- College-level degree in Nursing (BSN, MSN) from an Accredited School of Nursing.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of CA.
- Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.
- Current PALS Certification.
