About the role
Job Summary:
The Operating Room RN, also known as a perioperative nurse, is responsible for providing care for patients before, during, and after surgery. They work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive the best possible care in the operating room.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assessing and monitoring patients before, during, and after surgery
- Collaborating with the surgical team to create and implement care plans
- Administering medications and anesthesia as needed
- Assisting surgeons during procedures
- Monitoring and maintaining sterile surgical environments
- Educating patients and families about post-operative care
- Documenting patient care and progress
- Providing emotional support to patients and families
Qualifications and Skills:
- Current RN license in the state of practice
- BSN preferred
- Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and strong critical thinking skills
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and assist with patient transfer
- Knowledge of surgical procedures and equipment
