The primary role of the Intramural Sports Official is to utilize sport trainings to make sound judgements during game contests while working with crew/partners. The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience in a competitive environment. This position should work 3-12 hours per week during the current semester. Those hours may be worked in any combination, at the discretion of the direct supervisor. The Intramural Sports Official must be reliable, organized, responsible, and flexible. They must also be ambitious, detail-oriented, creative, and driven.

Qualifications

Complete required sport training including: rules clinic, on-field/court mechanics and positioning, and practice games – approximately 9-12 paid hours

Satisfactory completion of rules test

Satisfactory evaluation upon completion of required sport training

High school diploma or equivalent

Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

Flexible and dependable with a strong attention to detail

Problem solving, logic and reasoning skills

Customer service oriented

Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines

Ability to work independently and with a team

Be timely and organized

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities

Administer game captain’s meetings to review pertinent rules, answer any questions, and initiate play

Communicate with crew prior, throughout, and after game contests

Handle participant misconducts and appropriate documentation

Utilize expertise to work with crew/partners to provide a quality experience for participants

Responsible for overall crew/partners performance

Acknowledge and support participants and staff with unique needs and differing backgrounds

Be knowledgeable and comprehend all Intramural Sports rules and procedures to ensure proper enforcement and execution

Assess team conduct and award applicable sporting behavior rating

Facilitate the set-up and clean-up of each intramural game site, including equipment inventory

Maintain safety and risk management standards of the department

Perform daily upkeep of supplies throughout the facility

Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact in responding to customers

Handle emergency situations and prioritize responsibilities while continuing to provide the highest level of customer service

Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information

Serve and participate on committees within the division to provide feedback from a student lens

Present ideas to division senior leadership as identified

Responsible for all scheduled shifts (based on class/exam schedules for the semester)

Must attend all scheduled staff meetings to gain and/or share pertinent information

Other duties as assigned
