Recreational Therapist

About This Role

This full-time recreational therapist position provides medically-approved activities for patients in an acute geriatric psychiatric facility. The role involves supporting the clinical department through teamwork and contributing to patients' overall psychosocial needs. This position is currently filled, but applications are accepted to ensure continuity of patient care if a vacancy occurs.

Responsibilities

• Provide medically-approved activities for patients within the facility
• Plan activities including leisure skills, social activities, physical/exercise, cognitive challenges, and arts and crafts
• Provide support to the clinical department through teamwork
• Provide input into the patient's overall psychosocial needs

Requirements

• High school diploma or its equivalent
• Minimum of one year experience performing similar duties in a healthcare setting (strongly preferred)
• Certification through an approved program designed to train the components of Activity Therapy duties
• Photo ID
• Social Security Card/Driver's Licenses
• Primary Source Verification of Education
• Copy of Clinical license if applicable
• CPR certification
• Behavioral Management Training
• Basic understanding of DSM V diagnostic criteria
• Basic understanding of medical and psychiatric diagnoses and conditions
• Previous psychiatric experience in an acute setting

Nice to have:

• Previous geriatric psychiatric experience
