About The Role We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst to join our team supporting an enterprise initiative for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the quality and security of software applications involved in reducing and eliminating the use of Social Security Numbers (SSNs) within critical VistA applications. The QA Analyst will play a vital role in testing, validating, and verifying modifications to workflows, user interfaces, reports, and audit records, ensuring compliance with privacy and security standards. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high-impact federal project that enhances data security and privacy for veterans and healthcare providers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in software quality assurance or software testing
- Experience developing and executing detailed test cases, scripts, and scenarios
- Proven track record of documenting and tracking software defects effectively
- Experience performing functional, regression, and user acceptance testing within enterprise software environments
- Strong collaboration skills with developers and Business Analysts throughout the software development lifecycle
- Knowledge of testing methodologies and best practices in QA processes
- Understanding of PII/PHI handling requirements, HIPAA, NIST security controls, or VA privacy standards
- Experience with automated testing tools or techniques (preferred)
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance
- Successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting as required
Responsibilities
- Analyze requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical designs to identify testing needs
- Develop comprehensive test cases, scripts, scenarios, and test data aligned with project requirements
- Execute functional, integration, regression, and User Acceptance Testing across impacted VistA packages
- Validate the removal or replacement of SSN data within workflows, user interfaces, reports, and audit records
- Verify the correct implementation of enterprise identifiers and expected application behavior
- Perform manual testing and leverage automated testing tools where applicable
- Document software defects, unexpected behaviors, and test failures clearly and accurately
- Track defects through investigation, correction, retesting, and closure processes
- Collaborate with developers and Business Analysts to reproduce issues and validate resolutions
- Participate in defect triage meetings, providing insights on severity, impact, and reproducibility
- Ensure that the functionality meets documented business, technical, privacy, and security requirements
- Support testing activities related to PII/PHI protection and compliance with NIST controls
- Maintain traceability between project requirements, test cases, and results
- Identify gaps in test coverage and recommend improvements to QA processes
- Engage in Agile ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, and Daily Stand-ups
- Communicate testing progress, risks, issues, and impediments to the QA Lead and project team
