Duties

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

  • Monitors pump stations by means of mechanical and electronic measuring devices which give visual readouts or audio alarms.
  • Reports monitoring information to those responsible for remedial actions and records incidents in plant log book.
  • Records bearing temperatures, canal elevations, pump RPM, pressures, and cubic feet per second readings for pumps. Reports variances to supervisors.
  • Checks and cleans trash racks and cooling system screens on a routine basis. Operates and maintains trash rack cleaners removing and disposing of accumulated waste material.
  • Performs routine maintenance as assigned or as prescribed in standard procedures.
  • Performs general housekeeping chores in and around assigned plants including yard and custodial duties such as cleaning and painting.
  • Assist Pump Operators with annual maintenance, repair or overhauls the Irrigation Projects pumping plant equipment as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. Listed below are the JOB ELEMENTS you will be rated on:

·Ability to perform a full range of work of a Pump and Powerplant Attendant, BB-4749-00. (screen-out element)

· Ability to perform common work of a Pump and Powerplant Attendant, BB-4749-00. (screen-out element)

· Ability to perform simple work of a Pump and Powerplant Attendant, BB-4749-00. (screen-out element)

·Technical Practices and Equipment Use: Pump Station Operations

·Technical Practices and Equipment Use: Electrical

·Technical Practices and Equipment Use: Piping and Valves

·Ability to Interpret Instructions, specifications, etc. (blueprints, drawings and work orders)

·Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment including measuring instruments

BASIS OF RATING**:** The first three (3) job elements are the screen-out elements (Ability to do the work of a Pump and Powerplant Attendant, BB-4749-00). Applicants who do not meet the minimum quality level of experience for this element will be rated ineligible and will receive no further consideration for this position.

Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part in foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation upon request. Failure to provide such documentation when requested will result in lost consideration.
