About the role

Duties
The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position is to serve as a Public Affairs Specialist in an Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) wing/group assisting the Public Affairs officer in executing the commander's public affairs program. As such, incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:

  • Prepare internal information print products such as newspaper/magazine for publication
  • Perform work for the production/maintenance of electronic and web-based information products
  • Organize, coordinate, publicize and conduct periodic events with local organizations, local government and state and national legislative offices
  • Assists PAO in developing and maintaining the employer support program.
  • Respond to media queries concerning special events, mobilizations, exercises, aircraft incidents or accidents

Qualifications
You must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 or qualifying pay band under other pay systems in the Federal service which has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities as shown below required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Experience which provides a thorough knowledge of using a variety of standard print and electronic media and interpersonal communication techniques to convey news and information to internal and external audiences. (To be creditable, specialized experience must meet the above quality level requirements).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
(1) Knowledge of the concepts, principles, policies and practices of a Public Affairs Program.
(2) Knowledge of written and oral communication principles, methods, and techniques to conduct and coordinate public affairs activities to include producing written information for and making oral presentations to a variety of audiences with different levels of understanding.
(3) Ability to interact and deal with a variety of publics; including news media representatives, state and local officials, and the organization's program officials.
(4) Skill in developing written communication materials to include writing news and feature articles, editing and publication design using current software programs.

Substitution of Education for Experience:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., in a relevant field of study (e.g., journalism, communication, advertising, marketing, public relations, etc). Education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) necessary to perform the duties of the position. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS TO INCLUDE INSTITUTION NAME AND DATE DEGREE WAS AWARDED.
