About the role

Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Public Affairs Specialist, of an Air Force Reserve wing under the AFRC developmental Public Affairs Program. As such, incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:

  • Provide technical guidance and policy interpretation to the military and civilian managers regarding internal information, media relations, community relations and administrative functions.
  • Accomplish work for wing media relations program.
  • Prepare written information to inform and educate assigned personnel.
  • Execute the Employer Support Program.
  • Pursue an exchange of information and ideas among wing personnel and the surrounding community representatives.

Qualifications
You must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or qualifying pay band under other pay systems in the Federal service that has given you particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as shown below required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Experience which involved using a variety of standard print and electronic media and interpersonal communication techniques to convey news and information to internal and external audiences. (To be creditable, specialized experience must meet the above quality level requirements).

KSAs:
(1) Knowledge of the concepts, principles and practices of conducting a Public Affairs program.
(2) Skill in gathering, evaluating, and interpreting data to arrive at valid conclusions, and offer meaningful recommendations.
(3) Ability to plan and develop news stories and features as well as design and layout of final product.
(4) Ability to present information in a logical, clear concise manner to audiences with differing levels of comprehension.
(5) Knowledge of the means and methods used to evaluate news significance.

Substitution of Education for Experience:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in journalism, communication, advertising, marketing, public relations or directly related field. Education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is related to the duties of this position. If you are qualifying based on education, an official copy of your college transcripts is required.
