Psychometrician

About This Role

Administering and interpreting various neuropsychological tests to adult and geriatric patients is the core of this psychometrician role, under the supervision of a Neuropsychologist. The psychometrician works with other professionals to maximize clinical outcomes, selecting tests consistent with the patient's age and developmental status.

Responsibilities

• Administer neuropsychological and psychological tests under direct supervision of a neuropsychologist, behavioral neurologist, or geriatrician
• Score tests immediately for same-day feedback to the patient
• Assist the Neuropsychologist, behavioral neurologist, or geriatrician in documenting results and writing reports’ data and results section, as needed
• Assist patients and family members in completion of forms
• Assist the Neuropsychologist in patient visit documentation in the electronic medical record
• Coordinate scheduling with other members of the care team
• Communicate effectively with patients, members of the multidisciplinary team and other health care workers
• Report changes in patient condition to the referring provider
• Participate in the treatment planning process through appropriate communication and documentation in the medical record
• Maintain test materials for the Neuropsychologist and the Behavioral Neurologist
• Update normative data for neuropsychological and psychological tests
• Coordinate office functions as dictated by the Neuropsychologist and Practice Manager
• Assist with research studies, as assigned by the Neuropsychologist
• Be open to feedback, seek consultation with others and demonstrate ability to grow in knowledge of patient dynamics and one's own response to patient interactions
• Give feedback to others and offer ideas for improvement in program modalities
• Maintain appropriate boundaries within the context of a professional relationship

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Sociology
• Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with patients, families, physicians, other health care professionals and the community
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Must possess a positive attitude toward impaired patients
