Psychiatrist

About This Role

This position provides psychiatric assessment as part of the evaluation process, focusing on mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders affecting patient health. The role also involves continuous psychiatric support for clients at various program stages, including intake, ongoing care, and post-inpatient follow-up.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients for mental, emotional, or psychiatric disorders
• Focus on correct diagnosis using history, physical exam, and diagnostic testing as indicated
• Provide care with appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment
• Complete medical records and document reports in accordance with HealthNet
• Make appropriate referrals for both psychiatric and non-psychiatric medical care
• Provide clinical consultation to other HealthNet primary care, OB/GYN, and dental providers when requested
• Apply a minimum of one health literacy method when communicating with patients/clients
• Collaborate with other behavioral health providers and staff, primary care providers, OB/GYN providers, and dental providers in a holistic approach to meeting patient needs
• Provide direct patient care, consultation, and clinical supervision
• Attend and actively participate in monthly behavioral health meetings as well as other provider and Health Center meetings as scheduled
• Perform any required trainings or other regulatory functions when requested
• Participate in quality assurance, educational, and professional committees as assigned
• Meet patient visit productivity targets as assigned
• Help provide oversight and medication and chart reviews for psychiatric nurse practitioners
• Provide oversight of assigned therapists and sign off on therapy notes at initiation of treatment plans and at least every 90 days thereafter while the patient is receiving therapy services

Requirements

• Maintenance of active credentials with professional accrediting bodies
• M.D. or D.O. medical degree
• Current Indiana medical license, CSR, and DEA
• Completion of a psychiatry residency
• Board eligible or Board-certified in Psychiatry
• Prescribes medication when necessary
• Strong interpersonal skills to participate in service delivery with an interdisciplinary team
• Quality client care and communication
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of good educational practices; assessment of needs and implementation of programs of education
• Exceptional customer service skills, especially empathetic concern for the patient
• Travel may be required
• Able to be involved in degrees of prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, and stooping
