Psychiatrist

About This Role

This role involves providing inpatient specialty psychiatric care to patients with serious mental illness who need long-term behavioral health care at the Arizona State Hospital. The Psychiatrist leads a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, focusing on diagnostic examinations, medication management, and behavioral plans to support patient recovery and improve their quality of life.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic examinations, prescribe medications, and monitor care and progress of patients toward treatment and recovery goals
• Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment of seriously mentally ill patients committed to ASH
• Provide leadership for multidisciplinary treatment team and oversee the work of the team in developing and implementing a plan of care
• Work with other professionals in a recovery model including nurses, social workers, psychologists, rehabilitation staff, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician's assistants
• Attend hospital committees and medical staff meetings
• Complete required documentation and prepare reports for legal and administration purposes
• Perform other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5% - 10%)

Requirements

• Knowledge of standards of psychiatric care, including a detailed understanding of the process and standards for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental disorders, and current knowledge of evidence-based treatment of psychiatric illnesses
• Knowledge of Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies
• Psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Work experience in leading a multidisciplinary treatment team
• Organization and time management skills
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to maintain a positive and effective working relationship with all levels of hospital staff and other professionals
