About the role

Role Overview

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) serves as the attending clinician for youth and adult consumers in a crisis facility. You will direct clinical services, stabilize individuals in crisis, and coordinate with the community and legal systems for ongoing care.

Schedule Expectations:

Front End Day: Sun - Tue 7am-7pm (every 3rd Wed)

Back End Day: Thu - Sat 7am-7pm (every 3rd Wed)

PRN/Pool: minimum 3 shifts per month

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care: Conduct psychiatric assessments, crisis interventions, differential diagnoses, risk assessments, and medication management.
  • Case Management: Lead the clinical team, update treatment plans, manage discharge planning, and coordinate with outpatient and primary care providers.
  • Documentation & Testing: Complete clinical records (admission/discharge orders, progress notes), review health assessments, and order laboratory tests.
  • Legal & Compliance: Complete petitions for emergency custody and medication over objection; testify in civil commitment hearings when required.

Qualifications & Requirements

Must-Haves:

  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted Virginia RN and APRN licenses (or eligible multistate licensure).
  • Certification: Accredited PMHNP program completion (Master's level), plus BLS certification.
  • Credentials: Unrestricted DEA license and Virginia PMP registration. Must complete NPI, Medallion, and Medicare enrollment during credentialing.
  • Experience: Background in crisis mental health or family health treatment for children, adolescents, and/or adults.
  • Clearances: Ability to pass VA DBHDS, VA DSS Central Registry, and State Fingerprint background checks.
  • Policy: Compliance with company mandatory vaccination policy.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Dual certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
  • Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP).
  • Experience in addiction treatment and recovery.
  • Current DEA registration with Schedule III authority.
