About the role

Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing mental health assessments, diagnosis, and treatment to patients suffering from mental illnesses and disorders. They collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and monitor patients' progress.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to assess patients' mental health
  2. Diagnose mental illnesses and disorders based on assessment findings
  3. Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients and their families
  4. Prescribe and manage medications for mental health conditions
  5. Provide therapeutic interventions, including counseling and psychotherapy
  6. Monitor and evaluate patient progress and adjust treatment as necessary
  7. Educate patients and their families about mental health disorders and treatment options
  8. Collaborate with other healthcare providers to coordinate care and referrals
  9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records
  10. Stay current on best practices, research, and guidelines in psychiatric mental health care
  11. Participate in continuing education and professional development activities
  12. Adhere to ethical and legal standards in the practice of psychiatric nursing
  13. Provide crisis intervention and support to patients in acute distress
  14. Advocate for patients' rights and access to mental health services
  15. Promote mental health awareness and wellness in the community

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing with a specialty in psychiatric mental health
  • Current licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Experience in providing mental health care to diverse patient populations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Proficient in electronic health record systems
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice
