Production Set Designer

Our Robotics team is building the world's most advanced robotic learning systems by collecting high-quality real-world data across a diverse range of robotic platforms. Our production environments are constantly evolving to support new research initiatives, requiring rapid iteration, operational excellence, and close collaboration across engineering, research, and operations teams.

As a Production Set Designer, you will own the planning, staging, and execution of physical data collection environments used to train robotic systems. You'll work closely with researchers defining new skills, hardware teams building robotic workcells, and operations teams responsible for executing large-scale data collection.

This role combines elements of production design, technical operations, logistics, and program management. You'll be responsible for transforming research concepts into repeatable, production-ready environments that maximize data quality while maintaining safety, efficiency, and scalability.

Responsibilities

• Rapidly create and reconfigure realistic, high-quality environments that accurately reflect real-world scenarios multiple times throughout the day.
• Partner closely with Research to translate experimental goals into production-ready scene layouts and task environments.
• Coordinate with Hardware Engineering to ensure robotic workcells, fixtures, cameras, lighting, networking, and supporting infrastructure are properly integrated.
• Own the procurement, inventory, organization, and lifecycle management of all scene assets, props, tools, and equipment.
• Develop standardized set designs that can be consistently reproduced across multiple robotic workstations.
• Manage build schedules, installation timelines, and logistics for new data collection environments.
• Drive project plans for new production environments, aligning closely with the lead program manager on scope, milestones, owners, dependencies, risks, and readiness reviews.
• Ensure all production sets meet safety, ergonomic, and operational standards.
• Monitor scene performance and data quality, identifying opportunities to improve consistency, efficiency, and throughput.
• Collaborate with Operations to support rapid changeovers between research experiments and large-scale production data collection.
• Create documentation, build guides, inventory standards, and operating procedures for production environments.
• Drive continuous improvement across production workflows, tooling, and physical workspace organization.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in production operations, set design, scene staging, laboratory operations, manufacturing, or a related field.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects, schedules, inventories, and cross-functional priorities.
• Experience coordinating with engineering, research, and operations teams to deliver complex technical projects.
• Strong organizational skills with experience managing equipment, assets, logistics, and production readiness.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in fast-paced R&D, robotics, manufacturing, or hardware development environments.
• Experience supporting robotics, AI, autonomous systems, or advanced hardware development programs.
• Experience designing, staging, or managing physical environments for data collection, testing, or research.
• Familiarity with robotics workcells, cameras, sensors, fixtures, tooling, and lab equipment.
• Experience identifying operational bottlenecks and driving continuous process improvements.
• Comfortable working in highly ambiguous, rapidly changing environments where priorities evolve quickly.
• Experience managing vendors, procurement, and inventory for technical programs.

Pay Range: $75-$85/hour
