About This Role

This DC-based Producer role involves acting as an off-camera news gatherer and the primary liaison between the field and the network. The Producer will cover events, manage a team of photojournalists, support correspondents, gather elements, and communicate news and information to the newsroom.

Responsibilities

• Establish and set up live shot locations
• Supervise and manage ENG crews
• Edit content for live and modular programming, including live shot elements, as lives and packages
• Shoot b-roll
• Conduct interviews
• Work with talent in the field
• Communicate any editorial developments from the field to the newsroom, show teams, and control room
• Develop contacts and sources
• Write and produce segments and packages
• Write daily updates relating to live events
• Write detailed memos for taped programming
• Meet established deadlines
• Travel and manage field logistics and production
• Stay on top of the latest developments in stories, potentially attending press conferences and events

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
• 3-6 years of field producing and/or live programming producing
• Strong editorial judgment
• Strong research, writing, and package writing skills
• An interest or passion for coverage subject matter
• Ability to calmly communicate breaking news and important information during live events
• Effective team leader with strong people management skills
• Ability to cultivate and develop contacts and sources

Nice to have:

• ENG shooting preferred
• Knowledge of iNews is helpful
