Procurement Engineer

About This Role

This Procurement Engineer role involves leading sourcing and procurement for electronic materials (Direct Materials) essential for advanced fab operations. The position supports the startup and ramp of Tesla's Research Fab on the Giga Texas campus, establishing technologies, supplier ecosystems, and supply chain foundations for future High-Volume Manufacturing semiconductor Tera Fab facility in Grimes County. It is ideal for an engineer with a deep understanding of semiconductor fab modules and the ability to translate process requirements into effective sourcing and supply strategies.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end sourcing and procurement strategy for a designated portfolio of semiconductor consumables supporting one or more fab modules
• Partner closely with Process Engineers, Equipment Engineers, Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality teams to understand process requirements, critical specifications, and technology roadmaps
• Develop technical specifications and sourcing strategies for assigned materials, ensuring alignment with current development needs and future manufacturing requirements
• Lead supplier identification, RFQs, technical evaluations, commercial negotiations, sample testing, qualification plans, and supplier selections
• Evaluate global suppliers based on technical capability, quality systems, purity requirements, cost-of-ownership, capacity, scalability, and long-term supply reliability
• Complete supplier audits, line walks
• Drive quality improvements through process control, change control and CoA parameters
• Prevent excursions and dispose of discrepant material
• Drive qualification and introduction of new materials to meet manufacturing readiness objectives
• Establish supply agreements, risk mitigation plans, dual-sourcing strategies, and contingency plans to support uninterrupted operations
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to support tool installations, process development, and new line readiness activities
• Provide strategic recommendations that improve performance, cost, and supply resiliency
• Build supplier relationships, sourcing strategies, and procurement infrastructure that will enable the successful transition from Research Fab development to future high-volume manufacturing in Grimes County

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or related field, or equivalent experience
• Minimum 7+ years of experience in semiconductor materials procurement or technical procurement with a strong focus on fab materials
• Solid module-level understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes (Plating, Etch, Lithography, CMP, Cleaning, Thin Films, etc.)
• Demonstrated success leading technical material selection and procurement projects in high-volume manufacturing environments
