About the role
Seeking a licensed Professional Engineer – Process to own system design, description, and P&ID development for balance-of-plant process and utility systems on power generation projects. This role defines control design/strategy for assigned systems and interfaces closely with the partner firm's detailed I&C, mechanical, piping, and structural teams to ensure a coordinated design.
Job Responsibilities
● Own system design, engineering description, and P&ID development for assigned balance-of-plant systems: compressed air, ammonia supply and storage, closed cycle cooling water, fuel gas supply, emissions sampling and analysis/turbine drains, service water, potable water, wastewater collection and treatment, and oil spill prevention.
● Develop control design/strategy for these systems (control philosophy, interlocks, setpoints) as input to the detailed control system design, I/O lists, and logic diagrams produced by the Instrumentation & Controls team.
● Support Site Fire Protection System engineering jointly with the client partner (partner provides engineering sketches; Cyient completes drafting and documentation).
● Prepare and maintain the process design basis, process parameters list, and related process engineering documentation.
● Perform or support PSV (pressure safety valve) reviews and coordinate relief/safety device sizing with mechanical and piping engineering.
● Coordinate process design interfaces with mechanical/piping (pipe routing, isometrics, pipe stress) and structural (pipe rack loading) disciplines to ensure design consistency.
● Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, and other safety and risk assessment studies as required to support process safety on assigned systems.
● Contribute process engineering input to procurement and construction specifications for in-line devices and process equipment, and support joint technical review of submittals.
● Participate in multidisciplinary 3D model reviews and coordination meetings with the partner firm to review project needs, status, and space-control results.
● Prepare and, where applicable, stamp (PE seal) assigned process engineering deliverables in accordance with jurisdictional licensing requirements.
● Track and report engineering man-hour progress against budget/schedule for assigned scope; support project controls and document control processes.
● Participate in client/partner coordination meetings, technical queries, and design reviews; present and defend technical solutions.
● Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional development. Job Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and Master's degrees preferred but not required, from an ABETaccredited institution.
● Active Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Wyoming or qualified to obtain one through reciprocity, having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) and the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exams with demonstrated experience to design, approve, certify, and seal drawings and engineering deliverables as deemed necessary.
● Minimum 5-8 years of progressive process engineering experience, ideally including power plant balance-of-plant utility/process systems (compressed air, cooling water, fuel gas, water/wastewater systems, etc.).
● Experience developing P&IDs, system design descriptions, and control strategies/philosophies for utility and process systems.
● Proven experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II, AVEVA PRO/II Simulation) and mass/energy balance and equipment sizing calculations.
● Strong understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals (thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mass transfer) and PSV/relief sizing principles.
● Familiarity with industry standards and codes (e.g., API, ASME, ISA) and experience participating in HAZOP/LOPA studies.
● Experience working within a multi-firm delivery model (e.g., EPC/owner's engineer + detailed design partner) and following an established RACI/scope-split matrix, including close coordination with a partner firm's I&C, mechanical, and structural teams.
● Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal), with ability to manage manhour budgets against a defined scope.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; project management experience is a plus.
