Principal CMF Designer

OVERVIEW:

The Principal CMF Designer in our Shenzhen office will define the creative direction and emotional impact of Shark and Ninja products through world-class Color, Material, and Finish design. As a senior individual contributor, you will drive trend-inspired CMF strategies, palette creation, and material storytelling, ensuring every product delivers brand differentiation and consumer delight.

You will balance strategic vision with hands-on creative execution, collaborating with global design, marketing, and engineering teams while serving as a guardian of CMF design quality. Beyond programs, you will also act as a driver of global CMF R&D capability, shaping the future with new materials, finishes, and surface treatments that expand SharkNinja’s design language and innovation pipeline.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CMF Concept & Strategy

• Define color, material, and finish strategies that strengthen Shark and Ninja’s global brand identity.
• Translate consumer insights and trend research into compelling CMF directions across categories.
• Develop storytelling assets (palettes, renderings, prototypes) that inspire cross-functional teams and influence senior leadership.

Innovation & R&D

• Explore new materials, coatings, and treatments to drive future CMF innovation.
• Partner with the Global Industrial Design and CMF teams to evaluate and integrate emerging technologies and processes into design strategies.
• Contribute to long-term CMF roadmaps that align design innovation with brand and business goals.

Execution & Quality Alignment

• Partner with Engineering, CMF development and suppliers to ensure creative vision translates into manufacturable solutions.
• Provide design leadership in sample reviews and critical checkpoints, protecting the creative intent.
• Elevate aesthetic fidelity and premium finish quality across all programs.

Collaboration & Leadership

• Collaborate with Global Industrial Design, Marketing, and Engineering teams to integrate CMF seamlessly into product design.
• Mentor Shenzhen-based CMF designers, raising creative and storytelling standards.
• Represent CMF Design in cross-functional reviews, executive presentations, and global workshops, championing the voice of design.

ATTRIBUTES & SKILLS: .

• Fluency in English and Mandarin (written and spoken) for effective collaboration with global teams and local suppliers.
• Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, Textile/Material Design, or related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
• 8+ years of CMF design experience, with a strong record of consumer product innovation.
• Exceptional creative eye for color harmony, material expression, and finish aesthetics.
• Skilled in trend analysis, storytelling, and presentation tools (Adobe Suite, KeyShot, CMF decks, prototypes).
• Strong knowledge of materials, coatings, plastics, metals, glass, textile, textures, and global manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with CMF standards and tools such as Pantone, NCS, SPI, YickSang, Mold-Tech, etc.
• Strong ability to connect CMF strategy to consumer emotion, brand identity, and market trends.
• Ability to work in an agile, fast-paced environment, delivering programs on time without compromising quality.
• Proven ability to inspire and influence cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership through compelling storytelling.
• Attention to detail, with an obsession for precision craftsmanship, color application, surface quality and appeal.
• Strong communicator, able to influence global teams and suppliers across cultures through clear, concise messages and storytelling that drive impactful results.
• A robust portfolio showcasing original creative work that highlights the product development process.
