About the role
The Principal Application Engineer will play a hands-on role on the Application Development Team. This position will lead and actively participate in both custom development and 3rd party technical application support. This position is responsible for architecture, design and delivery of enterprise applications. The role blends hands-on development with leadership, guiding engineering standards and responsible for SDLC for custom developed applications. The position also requires the ability to mentor, coach and perform code reviews. Ensure applications adhere to company standards and follows a consistent architecture.
Key Accountabilities:
- Foster a collaborative work environment with other IT support teams
- Develop strategies for improving current system efficiencies and effectiveness and propose projects to improve
- Manage the development and deployment of new applications and major enhancements to existing applications
- Lead complex refactoring, modernization and platform stability initiatives
- Own end-to-end SDLC for critical services from concept through production support
- Escalate, assist, and follow through on resolution of issues related to delivery of technology solutions
- Initiate and foster business partnerships with business partners, vendors and senior business leaders
- Lead design reviews, establish coding standards and drive best practices for API Design
- Anticipate and manage technology evolution and relate it to business solutions
- Ensure system reliability through robust monitoring, alerting and performance tuning
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical or business discipline
- 7+ years of experience in related role
- Experience with applied object oriented design patterns
- Experience with JS frameworks
- Experience with Tomcat
- Experience with DB2
- Experience with SQL Server
- Experience with Spring Boot
Skills and Behaviors:
- In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, and methodologies and their application to business opportunities
- In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives, and strategies
- In-depth knowledge of project planning methodologies and tools and IT standards and guidelines
- In-depth knowledge of deployment guidelines and methodologies
- Strong knowledge of Object Oriented analysis and design patterns
- In-depth experience developing full stack applications using Spring Boot
- In-depth experience developing restful services using Spring Boot
- Must take initiative to research and utilize technologies outside his/her comfort zone
- Ability to partner with key business stakeholders to support their needs
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications
- Knowledge of core J2EE patterns, DAO, EJB, Controllers, etc.
- Working Knowledge of SOA concepts, RESTFul webservices
- Working knowledge of Struts version 1 and 2
- Strong SQL skills
- Working knowledge of Eclipse
- Knowledge of rich client-side JavaScripting such as JQuery, JqueryUI, Grids
- Knowledge of React and Angular
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively within and across business units
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across the organization
- Ability to work towards multiple deadlines with shifting priorities
- Knowledge of retail processes and operations
