About This Role Rising Stars Day School is seeking a full-time, year-round Pre-K Lead Teacher Our Philosophy Our school provides a Reggio Emilia inspired environment and values the child as central to their
own learning. Our open and free-flowing classrooms enable uninterrupted exploration, play and
learning, and our outdoor space and time are valued just as highly as formal classrooms. We
encourage children to explore, and most of the educational experiences take the form of
projects, where they can actively participate and question things. Teachers are encouraged to
observe children rather than to direct them.
Schedule Monday-Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm (subject to change) with 1 hour of Lunch Break.
What You'll Do Classroom
- Lead the daily classroom routine.
- Keep the classroom organized and prepared.
- Prepare materials and activities.
- Maintain proper supervision and ratios.
- Manage transitions throughout the day.
Curriculum
- Follow the school’s curriculum.
- Prepare weekly lesson plans.
- Lead age-appropriate learning activities.
- Track children’s progress.
- Support individual learning needs.
Children & Behavior
- Set classroom expectations.
- Use positive guidance.
- Support social-emotional development.
- Encourage independence and problem-solving.
- Address behavioral concerns appropriately.
Documentation
- Complete lesson plans and observations.
- Maintain developmental records.
- Complete incident reports when needed.
Parents
- Communicate professionally with families.
- Provide daily updates when appropriate.
- Share developmental progress.
- Report concerns to administration.
Team Leadership
- Direct and support the assistant teacher.
- Delegate classroom responsibilities.
- Ensure teachers work together effectively.
- Model professionalism and teamwork.
- Communicate staff concerns to administration.
Safety
- Maintain active supervision.
- Check the classroom and playground for hazards.
- Follow licensing and school policies.
- Follow emergency procedures.
- Report injuries and safety concerns immediately.
Professional Expectations
- Arrive on time and prepared.
- Follow school policies.
- Participate in meetings and training.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Be a positive leader in the classroom.
Requirements Pre-K Lead Teacher Requirements
- Meet all Virginia licensing education requirements.
- Previous preschool/Pre-K teaching experience.
- Experience working with children ages 3–5.
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate practices.
- Ability to create and follow lesson plans.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Ability to lead and supervise an assistant teacher.
- Strong communication skills with families and staff.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
- Able to maintain required child-to-teacher ratios.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Complete required background checks and health requirements.
- Ability to lift, bend, sit on the floor, and actively participate with children.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team.
Nice To Haves
