Practice Manager

About This Role

Overseeing the operational and business management of the practice is the core of this role, ensuring the service runs effectively and meets the needs of patients and staff. The Practice Manager will lead and support the practice team, manage finances and contracts, and support business planning and service development. This hands-on, patient-focused role offers opportunities to engage directly with patients and staff where management support is required.

• Have overall responsibility for the managerial and commercial aspects of Great Chapel Street Medical Centre (GCS)
• Ensure the practice provides a safe, responsive and trusted environment for patients and staff
• Lead the effective day-to-day management of the practice, working closely with the HHCIC Directors, clinical team and administrative team
• Have responsibility across people management, finance, business planning, governance, information management and team leadership
• Support the continued development, sustainability and quality of the service
• Work collaboratively with internal and external partners
• Represent the practice at relevant meetings and forums
• Lead and oversee recruitment, retention and general personnel management
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels, skill mix and deployment within agreed budgets
• Oversee staff induction, training, appraisals and ongoing development
• Support effective systems for managing staff performance, disputes and grievances
• Ensure compliance with employment legislation and good employment practice
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR documentation, including job descriptions, employment contracts and policies
• Provide advice and support to staff and the Directors on employment and people-related matters
• Promote effective team working, communication and a positive working environment
• Oversee and monitor current contracts

About the Company

Great Chapel Street Medical Centre (GCS) is a specialist GP surgery that has provided primary care exclusively to people experiencing homelessness since the late 1970s. The practice is part of Homeless Health Community Interest Company (HHCIC), which has held the NHS APMS GP contract since 2018. Their approach is trauma-informed and holistic, recognising the complex health and social needs of people experiencing homelessness. GCS has a close-knitted multidisciplinary team, including GPs, homeless health clinical nurse specialists, nursing, women's health and administrative staff, alongside visiting professionals from partner organisations.
