About the role

Balfour Beatty Power T&D is seeking an experienced Account Director to join our Win Business Team. This is a high-profile strategic role focused on leading and developing Balfour Beatty's relationship with National Grid, one of our most important customers.

As the Account Director, you will be accountable for driving customer engagement, strengthening executive-level relationships, coordinating activity across the wider Balfour Beatty Group, and supporting long-term business growth. You will act as the single point of leadership for the account, ensuring a consistent, collaborative, and customer-focused approach across multiple business units.

What you'll be doing

Account Director Responsibilities

  • Lead relationship development and engagement with National Grid as a strategic customer account for the Balfour Beatty Group.
  • Act as the single point of accountability for engagement, communication, and performance across the account.
  • Provide leadership to ensure the wider business develops long-term, trusted relationships at both executive and operational levels.
  • Drive coordination, collaboration, and transparency across multiple business units engaging with the customer.
  • Champion a customer-centric culture focused on delivering exceptional outcomes and experiences.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and deliver the account strategy, aligned to customer objectives and Balfour Beatty's business goals.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance customer experience and strengthen long-term partnerships.
  • Provide leadership and coordination across internal teams contributing to the account, coaching stakeholders on strategic selling principles and best practice where required.
  • Lead customer performance reviews alongside members of the Executive Board.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality communication, governance, and reporting across the account.
  • Proactively identify and manage risks, issues, opportunities, and dependencies.
  • Work closely with the National Grid Business Development Lead to support strategic work-winning opportunities, framework agreements, and major pursuits across the Group.
  • Promote and position the full breadth of Balfour Beatty's capabilities, selling the value of an integrated Group approach into National Grid.
  • Support business growth through effective stakeholder engagement and the development of long-term strategic opportunities.

Who we're looking for

We are looking for a commercially astute and influential leader with a proven track record of managing strategic customer relationships within the construction, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.

Essential Experience

  • Senior account management, client leadership, or business development experience within a Tier 1 contractor, major infrastructure business, or similar environment.
  • Experience managing large-scale, complex customer accounts, frameworks, or multi-project portfolios.
  • Proven experience implementing and applying High Value-Based Selling techniques.
  • Strong relationship-building capabilities, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at executive and board level.
  • Strong commercial awareness with excellent coordination, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working across large organisations and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • A calm, authentic, and confident leadership style with the ability to build trust and credibility.
