Job Summary
Performs duties as a commissioned Police Officer related to maintaining a safe and secure environment on campus. Patrols campus area and facilities; investigates any suspicious behavior or circumstances; resolves disturbances or crimes. May serve as a field training officer for new police officers. Depending on level, responsibilities may increase to include conducting on-scene and follow-up investigations, providing first line supervision for shift's platoon of police officers and dispatchers.
Responsibilities
- Patrols campus area and facilities. (35%)
- Performs supervisory duties in the absence of the shift lieutenant, such as ensuring that proper procedures are followed on the scenes of calls for police service. (5%)
- Responds to, investigates, and resolves disturbances or other crimes; disturbing the peace; issues warnings; takes custody of serious offenders. (10%)
- Serves as a training officer for new police officers. (10%)
- Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)
- Administers first aid procedures as needed; transports persons with illnesses or injuries to medical facilities. (5%)
- Conducts investigations, reviews and approves reports. (5%)
- Directs traffic, gives directions, provides assistance to faculty, students, staff, and visitors. (10%)
- Locks and unlocks buildings according to schedule; admits authorized personnel into buildings. (5%)
- Notes, reports, and investigates any suspicious behavior or circumstances; ensures that unauthorized personnel vacate restricted areas. (10%)
Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent; good physical condition and good communications skills; valid Class D driver’s license. Must be Police Officer’s Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) certified. Requires two years of supervisory experience.
