About the role

Duties

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

  • Apprehend, arrest, or detain persons or violators fleeing from a crime scene
  • Follow law enforcement procedures or techniques to enforce laws and protect life, property, and the civil rights of individuals
  • Feed, groom, and exercise working dogs for overall health and wellness.
  • Use a working dog to search out explosive devices or illegal narcotics for a preliminary inspection or investigation.
  • Maintain working dog narcotic and explosive aids used in proficiency training

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  1. Interpreting and applying laws to assess violations of state and/or federal laws, regulations, statutes, or articles;
  2. Performing patrol duties by applying and enforcing traffic rules, directives, and procedures.
  3. Performing contingency actions in response to incidents, emergencies, and hostile actions (e.g. active shooter, hazardous material spill, bomb threats) as a member of a law enforcement response force.
  4. Assuming full responsibility for the continuous care, welfare, training, and use of assigned working dog to ensure the highest state of physical conditioning and proficiency standards are maintained.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
