PixiJS Game Developer

About This Role

This freelance engagement is for an experienced PixiJS Game Developer to ensure the technical quality, architecture, and performance of browser-based games. The role suits an engineer with several years of experience building and shipping game products with PixiJS, who understands the realities of delivering maintainable, scalable, and production-ready code.

Responsibilities

• Work on existing titles, improving and extending games rapidly developed through modern AI-assisted workflows and prototyping processes
• Implement gameplay features, UI systems, animations, audio, and game mechanics
• Ensure a consistent player experience across desktop and mobile devices
• Identify technical debt and improve code quality
• Establish best practices that support long-term development and maintenance

Requirements

• Strong experience using PixiJS
• Good working knowledge of Git and collaborative development workflows
• GSAP for animation and tweening
• Howler.js for audio integration
• Vitest and/or Playwright for testing and quality assurance
• Analytics and monitoring tools such as PostHog and Sentry
• Proven track record of building, optimising, and shipping commercial games using PixiJS in a professional environment prior to the use of AI in coding

Nice to have:

• Previous experience developing casual, puzzle, arcade, or mobile-style games
• Experience shipping and supporting live HTML5/browser-based games
• Familiarity with scalable game architecture and reusable gameplay systems
• Experience optimising games for lower-spec or mobile devices
• Understanding of asset delivery and CDN pipelines
