Pipefitter

About This Role

This pipefitter position is responsible for installing, inspecting, documenting, maintaining, and repairing various utility pipelines and fixtures throughout the plant. The role involves working with steam, water, disposal, gas, air, hydraulic, and process materials, and requires performing preventive maintenance and continuous improvement of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, document, maintain, and repair a variety of utility pipelines and utility fixtures throughout the plant, including steam, water, disposal, gas, air, hydraulic, and process material
• Operate both electric-welding and acetylene-welding apparatus
• Plan and lay out installations using piping standards
• Perform work from piping sketches or blueprints
• Choose the proper size and material of construction for the application
• Cut and thread pipe as required
• Cut holes in walls or floor as required for running pipe
• Perform necessary pressure tests on completed work
• Insulate and repair pipe coverings as necessary
• Adjust and repair automatic air handling systems
• Change filters as needed
• Perform job activities in a safe manner in accordance with policies and procedures
• Use CMMS in daily work activities
• Perform and document routine inspections of fire extinguishers, air handling units, dust collectors, and vacuum systems as required
• Cut and lay out piping systems
• Possess a working knowledge of electric and acetylene welding apparatus, fusing metal parts together to fabricate metal objects or to repair broken or cracked objects
• Use welding equipment properly
• Perform soldering and brazing as required
• Work with other craft persons where pipefitting is required
• Maintain inventory of supplies used in routine operation and restock cabinets as necessary
• Understand equipment in the plant and how it interfaces with the rest of the facility in order to assist as required
• Enter data on PC pertaining to repair and maintenance
• Access data on PC to troubleshoot problems
• Maintain order and cleanliness of work area where working
• Clean tools and equipment and perform other work as directed
• Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, boom trucks, and cranes
• Use machines and equipment such as various hand and power tools, welding apparatus, pipe threaders, mobile and rigging equipment, and personal computer
• Wear specialized PPE such as full-face respiratory protection and chemical protection clothing as required
• Work near molten metal, steam, high pressure and temperature fluids and gases, high voltage electricity, heavy machinery and equipment, below ground, various gases, toxic chemicals, confined spaces, hazardous materials, in high locations (up to 100 feet), and congested areas
