Physician Assistant - Neurosurgery

About This Role

Providing assistant surgical services in the operating room and other selected medical services under the direction of a surgeon is the core of this Physician Assistant role. The position is ideal for a professional with clinical experience in neurosurgery.

Responsibilities

• Provide general surgical assistant services in the operating room
• Assist surgeon with prepping until completion of the procedure
• Remove drains, tubes, and catheters
• Close incisions
• Assist with patient office visits and assume call when assigned
• Perform all charting, summaries, correspondence, and required paperwork for documenting care and billing
• Participate in physician educational programs provided by the employer relative to capitated medicine and implications for physician practice patterns
• Participate in the establishment of quality assurance programs
• Participate in the establishment of utilization management programs
• Participate in the selection of management information systems
• Participate in the development of patient education surveys
• Participate in the development of patient satisfaction surveys
• Assist in the development of operational and capital budgets
• Participate in operational assessments in search of revenue enhancement, expense reductions, consolidation efficiencies, and billing opportunities
• Assist in post-operative care of patients, including daily rounds and wound assessments

Requirements

• Completion of Physician Assistant Program or Program Certificate equivalent
• 1 year of appropriate clinical experience
• NCCPA certification and current Physician Assistant licensure in the state in which the team member is working
• BLS certification
• Prescriptive Authority for the state in which the team member is working
• Controlled Substance license for the state in which the team member is working
• Federal DEA license

In lieu of the above minimum requirements:

• Completion of Physician Assistant Surgical Residency Program or approved Surgical Physician Assistant graduate program
