Physician Assistant - Neurosurgery

About This Role

This Physician Assistant role offers the opportunity to work with a specialized neurosurgical team providing comprehensive care for patients with complex neurological and spine conditions. The position involves a blend of outpatient clinic, inpatient rounding, perioperative management, and surgical first assist responsibilities, partnering closely with the neurosurgical team. It is ideal for a Physician Assistant with prior neurosurgery or orthopedic spine experience who enjoys a hands-on surgical practice and developing long-term relationships with patients and physicians within a close-knit team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient health through comprehensive histories and physical examinations
• Diagnose and manage neurosurgical and spine conditions in collaboration with the supervising physician
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies, laboratory testing, and imaging
• Develop and implement treatment plans utilizing evidence-based practice
• Perform inpatient and outpatient evaluations, consultations, and follow-up care
• Assist in neurosurgical and spine procedures as First Assist
• Round on hospitalized patients and provide perioperative management
• Coordinate care across inpatient, outpatient, and surgical settings
• Counsel patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, medications, and recovery expectations
• Document care plans and treatment outcomes in the electronic medical record
• Participate in call coverage and continuity of care activities
• Perform procedures within scope of practice and demonstrated competency
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and administrative teams to optimize patient outcomes

Requirements

• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program
• Current Texas Physician Assistant license
• Current NCCPA certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
• Minimum of 2 years of Physician Assistant experience in Neurosurgery or Orthopedic Spine Surgery
• Experience assisting in surgical procedures
