About the role

Summary
Under the direction of a NYS-licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides and documents physician-ordered occupational therapy services. The PTA provides superior customer service by modeling the Unity Brand Promise and Core Values.

DEPARTMENT:
Acute Care

SCHEDULE:
Day shift, 8-hr. shifts (8:00 am - 4:30 pm). Weekend requirement: one weekend shift per month

Responsibilities

  • Within standards of practice established for a PTA, completes and documents (within agency standards) related to patient care, including visit notes, renewal orders, and verbal orders. Includes progress or lack of goal achievement in all charting.
  • Implements treatment programs individualized to meet patient needs and discharge plans: issues and provides instruction in the use of adaptive equipment. Confers with therapist directly, physician, and/or interdisciplinary team members regarding patient response to therapy and any concerns. Provides PT gait and ambulation training. Instructs in the use of assistive devices.
  • Provides instruction in safe transfer using appropriate body mechanics and equipment.
  • Participates in discharge planning and provides timely and adequate patient and family teaching to facilitate the discharge plan.
  • Coordinates patient schedule with team members and readily and effectively adjusts the schedule to meet changes in census and patient needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Reads, writes, and speaks English
  • Must demonstrate computer proficiency.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Required Licensure / Certification Skills: Current NYS PT Assistant licensure required

Licenses / Certifications
PTA - Physical Therapist Assistant certification - New York State Education Department (NYSED)

Physical Requirements
M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
