About the role

Duties

The selectee will serve as a Physical Security Specialist in the Office of Technical Development and Mission Support, Technical Security Division. Typical work assignments include:

  • Analyzes and evaluates the latest known technologies (e.g. state of the art intrusion detection systems and devices) that may potentially be used by hostile entities, both domestic and abroad, either independent or as groups to penetrate the Agency sites or otherwise harm protectees.
  • Performs protective advances and conducts surveys and analyses to identify how critical and vulnerable facilities or sites are and if there are any threats against them; adjusts plans and schedules; and develops acceptable alternative strategies in response to delays, sudden and/or major changes in itineraries or the introduction of critical intelligence.
  • Provides educated and authoritative advice and assistance to USSS, White House Officials and representatives from other federal agencies and organizations on issues relevant to electronics.

This position is covered by Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime (AUO) and additional compensation may be paid at the rate of up to 25% of the base salary.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GL-07 level (starting salary $50,935) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GL-05 level performing duties such as: troubleshooting and maintaining electronic components and systems requiring basic electronic theory; and utilizing troubleshooting tools and the systematic problem solving of electronic devices and systems. OR

A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. One full year of graduate level education at an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; OR

A combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. This will be calculated using your résumé and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.

You qualify for the GL-09 level (starting salary $56,805) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GL-07 level performing duties such as: troubleshooting and maintaining electronic components and systems requiring advanced electronic theory; utilizing troubleshooting tools and the systematic problem solving of electronic devices and systems; and testing and evaluating electrical components and systems. OR

Master’s or equivalent graduate degree. OR

Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR

A combination of graduate level education and experience. This will be calculated using your résumé and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service.
