Duties
Coordinate the park’s White Nose Syndrome (WNS) program. Update brochures on bats and WNS; create video podcasts on bats/WNS for the park's RM video kiosk and website; update training/educational materials for park staff and the public; train and assist park staff in WNS screening and decontamination procedures; prepare and present training sessions for park staff, volunteers and external partners.xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /
Serve as a point of contact for bat researchers. Plan and lead routine field work for bat research and monitoring activities. Coordinate and provide technical and organizational support for a university-level bat study. Collaborate with external partners to continue development of a Citizen Science component for this monitoring.
Install, operate, and troubleshoot monitoring equipment, such as acoustic bat monitors, IP video cameras, dataloggers, and environmental sensors; conduct acoustic bat monitoring; enter and process acoustic bat call data, and conduct data analysis; organize field notes and reports.

To qualify for this position, you must possess the basic qualifying specialized experience and/or education listed below as well as the selective factors as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire.
Applicants must meet the following basic qualifications.
For GS-06 Experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Physical Science Technician. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Participating in physical sciences research or natural resource-based studies; collecting environmental monitoring data, Installing electronic monitoring devices such as acoustic bat monitors, IP video cameras, data loggers, and environmental sensors and the operation of these devices. Cave impact restoration / mitigation tasks, such as removal of algae, lint, and other debris. Drafting and finalizing field maps of new surveys, Work in other fields such as physics, geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, or geology may also be qualifying. Experience as a laboratory mechanic or in a trade or craft may be credited if the work was performed in close association with physical scientists or other technical personnel and provided intensive knowledge of appropriate scientific principles, methods, techniques, and precedents.
OR Education: One year of graduate education or an internship meets the requirements for GS-6 only in instances where it is directly related to this position. Graduate education with a major study directly related to physical science such as, geology, geophysics, hydrology, atmospheric science. PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify, you must submit a copy of your college transcripts.
OR a combination: A combination of experience and education is also qualifying, a percentage of experience and a percentage of education as described above and when the two percentages are added together they total 100%.
