Position Overview
We are seeking a high-performing, dependable Phlebotomy Supervisor to lead our outpatient clinical drawing team. In this role, you will oversee a dedicated team of 7 phlebotomists while serving as the primary operational leader on the floor.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned phlebotomist and proven leader who thrives in a dynamic lab environment, takes independent initiative, and excels at streamlining workflow. You will play a crucial role in optimizing patient care pathways, stepping in for complex blood draws, managing add-on lab kit requests, and maintaining strong interdepartmental coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership:
Supervise, mentor, and support a team of 7 phlebotomists, fostering a collaborative, efficient, and patient-centered working environment. - Floor & Workflow Management:
Serve as the hands-on leader on the clinical floor, optimizing patient pathways and resolving daily workflow bottlenecks independently. - Clinical Support:
Step in to perform difficult blood draws and manage complex, specialized lab kits or add-on requests as needed. - Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
Coordinate daily space and workflow shared with standard-of-care patient services and adjacent laboratory teams. - Quality & Compliance:
Maintain high standards of lab safety, sample integrity, patient care, and compliance with clinical protocols. - Problem Solving:
Proactively address operational challenges, handle patient escalations, and streamline laboratory processes without requiring constant oversight.
Required Qualifications
- Certification:
Valid Phlebotomy Certification (CPT, CPT-I, or national equivalent required). - Leadership Experience:
Minimum 5 years of management or supervisory experience leading a team in a healthcare or laboratory setting. - Clinical Experience:
Minimum 5 years of direct, hands-on phlebotomy experience (open to diverse backgrounds, including mobile phlebotomy, provided leadership strength is demonstrated). - Technical Skill:
Advanced skill in venipuncture techniques, difficult draws, and laboratory kit preparation/processing. - Soft Skills:
Exceptional problem-solving abilities, strong communication, high self-initiative, and a calm demeanor under pressure.
