About the role
The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist / TH Instructional Support Assistant, Lab Specimen & Accessioning. The successful candidate will:
- Perform venipuncture and fingerstick collection on inpatients and outpatients.
- Maintain accurate logs of all venipuncture performed.
- Process and handle specimens in central receiving area.
- Log specimens via LIS (Cerner).
- Participate in all aspects of quality assurance, quality control, patient safety, continuing education and other aspects as needed.
- Train and aid in the instrumentation of techniques to new personnel and house staff.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ year of experience in venipuncture and clinical labs.
- Phlebotomy certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent in Medical Technology, Physical, or Biological Science.
- ASCP certification.
