About This Role
This contract phlebotomist position involves performing blood draws and other specimen collections, ensuring proper labeling and handling, and maintaining accurate patient information. The role requires experience with both pediatric and geriatric patients and offers the potential for a permanent position.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data
- Decontaminate equipment and update patient information
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
- Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
- Understand all physicians' orders
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness
- Package specimens for transport
- Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately label, and follow specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
- Attend annual department trainings
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
Requirements
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed (as required in some states)
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years of experience
- Pediatric and geriatric experience
- Clean driving record
- Reliable transportation

Important Details
- Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday to Friday, 6 AM to 7 PM, with 1 required Saturday shift per month. Shifts will be 8 hours.
- Projected Duration: 3 months + potential for permanent
- Locations: Glen Burnie, MD and surrounding areas, including Baltimore City, Glen Burnie, Columbia, Clarksburg, Frederick, and Olney. This is a float job.
