About the role

I am looking for a Ph.D. student who is curious about three-dimensional space, the space we share, and how we transform and delineate that space. Geomatics plays a vital role in the trajectory of our environment, economy, and society, both locally and globally, and I invite this student to be creative with that role and how they might leverage it for the betterment of all.

There is no project pre-made to drop into. But you will be fully funded, and we will pursue further funding depending on what sort of trouble we get into. We will attain said funding from good and reliable sources.

With this position will come the opportunity to bolster your teaching skills by serving as a teaching assistant for courses in plane surveying, UAS mapping, and/or photogrammetry. I want to give you the opportunity to lead lectures and lab sessions as well as create instructional material.

The use of generative AI during your pursuit of this degree is strictly prohibited. You're supposed to talk about your ideas to me and to your lab mates or to your very patient partner or best friend, not a chatbot. Besides, the crop of generative AI products we have today are sycophantic, environmentally disastrous, and unethically trained. Let's leave them alone.

The position is in Gainesville, Florida, and would begin January 2027. You'll thank me later for having you miss the 97° move-in day in August.

Contact me at halassiter–at–ufl–dot–edu. I’m already looking forward to talking to you.
