Pharmacy Technician II

About This Role

This pharmacy technician role provides essential distributive pharmacy services, assistance, and support to registered pharmacists. It involves processing medication orders, maintaining inventory, providing customer service, and may include specialized tasks for outpatient, inpatient, or central fill pharmacy settings.

Responsibilities

• Process medication orders, including computer order entry, medication preparation, and assembling all items prior to pharmacist final check
• Maintain pharmacy inventory and supplies according to established policies and procedures, including inspection of assigned areas and use of pharmacy computer systems
• Provide customer service by taking patient's prescriptions and documenting all required information, handling all customer interactions in a courteous and efficient manner, and releasing medications as required by policy/procedure
• For Outpatient Techs: Validate Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial insurance drug coverage and ensure adjudication is complete, addressing any error messages; handle cash, prepare deposits, and accounting reports
• For Inpatient Techs: Compound, stock, repackage, and batch from bulk medications; prepare routine patient orders for IV pharmaceuticals, including compounding, preparation, and labeling of any IV admixture including antibiotics, solutions, irrigations, narcotics, parenteral nutrition, and chemotherapy
• For Central Fill Pharmacy: Safely operate assigned equipment, including but not limited to: forklifts, order pickers, reach trucks, or other material handling equipment
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED
• Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or ExCPT (NHA)
• Completion of a pharmacy technician training program or 1 year equivalent experience
• Effective June 28, 2026: upon hire and before start date, registration as Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Pharmacy Technician through the PA State Board of Pharmacy

Nice to have:

• 1 year of pharmacy experience in respective area
