Job Summary

PetSmart Careers is hiring dependable, compassionate, and professional individuals for the position of Pet Sitter. In this role, team members will provide in-home pet care services for clients while receiving assignments, schedules, and customer information remotely from our support team. Employees are not required to report to a physical office location.

This opportunity is ideal for animal lovers seeking flexible work, independent scheduling, and meaningful interactions with pets and pet owners throughout the United States. Pet sitters will travel directly to assigned client locations to provide quality pet care services, companionship, feeding, walking, playtime, and basic wellness observation for pets in the client’s home.

Candidates should be reliable, organized, trustworthy, and comfortable working independently while maintaining excellent communication with both clients and the remote scheduling team.

Key Responsibilities

• Travel directly to assigned client homes for scheduled pet care visits
• Provide daily care for pets including feeding, fresh water, exercise, walks, litter box cleaning, and companionship
• Monitor pets for signs of illness, stress, or behavioral concerns and report updates promptly
• Administer basic medications when instructed by pet owners
• Follow individualized pet care instructions and routines provided by clients
• Maintain regular communication with clients and remote coordinators through phone, app, or messaging platforms
• Send visit updates, photos, and activity reports to pet owners
• Ensure client homes remain secure during and after visits
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality while working in customer homes
• Accept and manage appointments through the company’s remote scheduling system
• Respond promptly to scheduling updates and service requests
• Deliver exceptional customer service and build positive client relationships

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Smartphone with internet access
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision
• Comfortable handling dogs, cats, and other household pets
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 40 pounds
• Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous pet sitting, dog walking, kennel, grooming, veterinary, or animal care experience
• Experience working in customer homes or service-based environments
• Basic understanding of pet behavior and safety
• Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
• CPR or Pet First Aid certification is a plus

Work Environment

• Fully remote scheduling and communication
• No daily office reporting required
• Assignments dispatched remotely to your service area
• Flexible scheduling based on availability
• Local travel required to client locations
• Independent contractor or employee opportunities may be available depending on location

• $25 – $40 per hour depending on experience, availability, and location
