About the role

Duties

The primary purpose is to perform pest detection and extermination work.

Major Duties

  1. Conducts troubleshooting inspections of assigned facilities, grounds, drainage ditches, and marsh and water areas for pest infestation.

  2. Independently use IPM procedures to control pests in and around residences, offices, and food service areas, storage areas, aquatic areas, lawns, trees, and shrubs.

  3. Conducts pest control operations in several locations by applying pesticides using various application methods.

  4. Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power equipment/tools such as fogger mist machines, injection pumps, and hand spraying equipment in applying liquids or powders.

  5. Performs pest controlling duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations.

Qualifications

Experience: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C; for additional information, please see the OPM website. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must meet any screen-out element(s) listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas.

  1. Knowledge of physical characteristics, life cycles, and feeding habits of a wide variety of pests.

  2. Knowledge or advanced principles and procedures of IPM including chemical control techniques, precise surveys and parasites and predator usage.

  3. Knowledge of pesticide toxicity chemical solutions and baits.

  4. Knowledge of federal and state requirements dealing with the mixture, applications, and disposal of restricted use pesticides.

  5. Knowledge of and ability to apply safety and environmental standards, regulations, and requirements.

  6. Skill in operating and maintaining pest control tools and equipment and in selecting equipment appropriate for accomplishing assignments.

  7. Skill in reading and applying directions that relate to the mixture, use, and application of various kinds of general and restricted used pesticides.

  8. Ability to interpret building plans and blueprints.

Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
