Permitting & Regulatory Compliance Specialist II

About This Role

This specialist role focuses on independently managing a caseload of permitting and compliance projects from application to approval. The person in this role will be accountable for project execution, client communication, and regulatory outcomes, operating with minimal supervision and serving as the primary point of contact for assigned projects.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage a defined caseload portfolio of permitting and compliance projects from initiation through approval (e.g., 8–15+ active projects depending on complexity)
• Serve as the primary liaison between clients, agencies, and internal teams
• Prepare, review, and submit complete and accurate permit applications
• Analyze and respond to agency comments with clear, technically sound responses
• Monitor project timelines and ensure all deadlines are met
• Identify risks early and implement solutions to keep projects on track
• Conduct regulatory analysis and interpret applicable requirements
• Coordinate across disciplines (engineering, design, environmental, etc.)
• Maintain proactive communication with clients regarding status, risks, and outcomes
• Achieve strong client satisfaction (minimal escalations, positive feedback)
• Build and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and stakeholders
• Delegate defined tasks to Level I staff and provide clear direction
• Review junior staff work for quality and completeness
• Contribute to process improvements and documentation of best practices
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 4–6+ years of relevant experience in permitting, compliance, or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience in architecture, planning, real estate, engineering, construction, government, or related field
• Must have Retail petroleum / Underground Storage Tank experience (candidates without this experience will not be considered)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Strong project and time management skills (client-facing)
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to identify practical uses for company-approved AI tools to improve team processes, support better decisions, and increase efficiency
• Demonstrated ability to review AI-generated content for accuracy, protect confidential information, and remain responsible for the final work product
