Position Summary

The Perioperative Patient Care Assistant performs basic patient care tasks as a cooperative member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, in the Recovery Room Services nursing unit at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center. He/she reports at all times to a supervising nurse. This position also indirectly supports patient care by providing clerical support to the unit as assigned. The Perioperative Patient Care Assistant facilitates a safe, clean working environment for all patients, visitors, and staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Performs activities as identified on Perioperative Patient Care Assistant competency checklist while maintaining patient safety, comfort, and privacy.
  • Participates as a member of the health care team.
  • Respects patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Consistently applies infection control policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a safe, clean and healthful environment.
  • Attends department specific staff meetings, in-services, education and training.
  • Participates in selected department specific Performance Improvement Projects.
  • Demonstrates skills consistent with standards of practice and Departmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Participates in orientation of new staff as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Prior work experience in an acute hospital setting is preferred.
  • Must have basic knowledge of standard perioperative care procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is recommended.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) certification is required.
