DEFINITION:
The Peer Support role is an essential position within the Mental Health Care industry, dedicated to assisting individuals who are navigating their subsistence abuse and mental health challenges while pregnant/postpartum. As a Peer Support specialist, you will utilize your lived experience to provide emotional and practical support to clients, fostering a compassionate and understanding environment. This role involves not only offering personal insights and strategies but also empowering clients to share their narratives, identify their strengths, and develop individualized coping mechanisms. You will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating closely with mental health professionals to ensure clients receive holistic care tailored to their specific needs. Your contributions will be pivotal in creating a supportive community that promotes recovery, resilience, and positive mental health outcomes. The position requires an understanding of mental health issues, as well as a commitment to continuous learning and personal development. - A graduate from a prevention and recovery program and has experience working with the substance addiction community.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must possess lived experience with substance abuse and mental health challenges or related personal experiences.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to connect with diverse individuals.
- Demonstrated empathy, active listening skills, and non-judgmental attitude.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in mental health care.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health record systems.
- Willingness to engage in ongoing training and professional development in mental health care.
