Pediatric ICU Nurse

About This Role

Pediatric ICU Nurses perform direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act, utilizing therapeutic communication and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment. This role involves identifying nursing problems, planning individualized patient care with an interdisciplinary approach, and participating in performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act
• Utilize therapeutic communication in daily practice
• Maintain a safe therapeutic environment
• Identify nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient
• Plan individualized patient care while utilizing an interdisciplinary approach
• Participate in performance improvement activities
• Provide care and coordinate participation that fosters the goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statement
• Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions while maintaining accurate and detailed records
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition
• Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions
• Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans
• Monitor all aspects of patient care in a collaborative multidisciplinary setting
• Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on patient care and disease process and discharge instructions
• Make staff assignments based on patient need, acuity and the skill of the staff (when acting in charge nurse role)
• Serve as role models and clinical resource for the staff (when acting in charge nurse role)
• Respond in a timely manner to requests for information or follow-up with physician, staff or patient issues (when acting in charge nurse role)

Requirements

• RN licensure by Tennessee Board of Nursing or a Board of Nursing from a compact state
• Current BLS
• PALS required within 6 months
• 1 year of RN experience required

Nice to have:

• Pediatric ICU, Adult ICU or Pediatric experience highly preferred
