About the role

Summary
The Pediatric Data Specialist supports pediatric inpatient, emergency, ambulatory, and hospital-owned department settings by collecting, validating, analyzing, and reporting clinical, operational, quality, and safety data. This role transforms complex data into meaningful insights that support patient care, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and operational decision-making across the pediatric continuum of care.

Working collaboratively with physicians, nursing leaders, quality, informatics, and operational teams, the Pediatric Data Specialist develops standardized reporting, monitors key performance metrics, identifies opportunities for improvement, and helps drive data-informed strategies that enhance pediatric outcomes and family-centered care.

Education

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required within three years of employment.
  • Coursework must be completed outside of work hours.
  • Nurses hired, rehired, or transferred from a non-nursing position prior to December 1, 2017, with an ASN are grandfathered and are not required to obtain a BSN.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Indiana required.

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of experience in an applicable hospital department required.
  • Clinical chart review and data abstraction experience required.
  • Quality improvement or patient safety experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, required.
  • Experience with PowerPoint and Access preferred.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable interpreting healthcare data and presenting findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Basic statistical knowledge preferred.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, teamwork, stewardship, and a commitment to continuous learning.

What You'll Do

  • Collect, validate, analyze, and report pediatric clinical, operational, quality, and safety data.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that support clinical and operational decision-making.
  • Monitor quality, patient safety, throughput, utilization, and access metrics across pediatric services.
  • Maintain standardized data definitions and validation processes to ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks while supporting quality improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with physicians, nursing leadership, quality, informatics, and operational teams to provide actionable insights.
  • Support regulatory reporting and organizational performance improvement efforts.
  • Assist in identifying healthcare disparities through data analysis and support equitable improvement strategies.
  • Manage multiple analytics projects while ensuring timely and accurate deliverables.
